DESK SET- 6 pcs, wartime 1916 vintage: 1916 75MM shell case w/raised IK back(cut-out) w/copper IK set inside of that w/German button in center, w/brass LID(for stamps, etc), 1916 37 MM shell w/Cross of Lorraine in copper set on back side(for paper clips, etc); pen/envelope "rest"(to place letters on for mailing), which is a flat pc. of brass shell case wall w/8 curled/pointed ends(like flames) w/copper "VERDUN" letters in center and "16" on curled ends(meaning 1916), w/standing German cartridge on one end w/two 1/3 bullet raised "arms"(similiar to a cross) w/German button top(NEAT, one of a kind for sure); copper scimitar letter opener from driving band, WITH a "holder" made of bullet w/IK design in round base. Also has a double backed cartridge(8mm german) set with fine engraving, tips come out which held pencil/quill type pen tip(not pictured). LOT

VASE- Trench Art, 75MM shell case with flared top, PLAIN, but the interesting part is the tag that came with it which reads "Vase made by Wounded Canadian Soldier, while Convelesing". 1915 dated case, which makes it a very early piece of trench art.

SHELL- Trench art, Iron Cross: A 77MM German 1917 dated shell case engraved with an Iron Cross w/1914-1919 in legs, then on the rest of the shell is engraved towns or battles of "Colombeyles Belles/ France; Souvenir Metz, Verdun, Rheims, St.Mihiel, Toul, Nancy". Dark patina.

SHELL- TRENCH ART "Red Cross" WARTIME presentation: A very rare shell 6" large shell casing(155MM), US, model 1904, 1915 dated, all heavily engraved with: "TO OUR COMRADE/ DANDALY/ AMERICAN RED CROSS/ SECTION VII/ HOSPITAL AT RESSONS-SUR-MATZ/ MAY 1917" and a tree w/flowers which surround the case and the presentation. This was msot likely made by a recuperating soldier for hosptial personnel. The making of Trench art(all kinds) was used for hospital rehabilitation purposes in WWI. EXC.
