GRENADE- FRENCH "BARBELLES" type "stick grenade" (which pre-dates the German stick grenade), Model 1913 (400 grams of explosive) shown in Delhomme book page 35/36, lower right. Classified as a "PETARD" since it is an artisan grenade made at the front, this represents the earliest of all stick grenadese, with the can being filled with any available scrap metal and explosive packets. VG-EXC, original, INERT. Unpainted can. The Model 1916 had 800 grams of explosive with a longer can (shown being used in the front lines in the Delhomme grenade book - page 38). CLIP- (CHARGER) 5 round for M1916 (and all converted "07/15's" modified to "M16" with new magazine housing added) French Berthier rifles and carbines, EXC, useable. They simply drop out the bottom after the last round. Unlike most "chargers", these stay in the gun until empty. Actual "CLIPS" stay in the gun (like the SMLE magazine which can be loaded with a charger or rounds put in by hand if you lose your chargers) and are part of the weapon. "Chargers" on the other hand are disposable. Everyone calls these clips but they are really chargers, The French were the only Army that had a gun requiring.
